Applaud Historians Defending Our Public Records

Historians and watchdog groups are stepping up to protect our nation’s history — and it deserves recognition.

The American Historical Association and American Oversight have filed a lawsuit to stop efforts that would allow Donald Trump to keep presidential records instead of turning them over to the National Archives, as required by law.

The Presidential Records Act exists for a reason: to ensure that the official actions of a president are preserved for the American people — not hidden away or controlled by any one individual.

This lawsuit is about more than documents. It’s about transparency, accountability, and protecting the public’s right to understand our history and hold leaders accountable.
