Applaud Democrats for Standing Up for Military Families

More than 60 Democratic lawmakers have launched an investigation after reporting found that more than 50 spouses and parents of active-duty service members have been detained by immigration authorities. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, and Tammy Duckworth, along with House Democrats, are pressing the Trump administration to explain its policies and whether federal agencies are coordinating efforts that could lead to the deportation of service members or their loved ones.

When troops are forced to take leave, delay deployments, or worry about whether their spouses or parents will be detained, the consequences extend far beyond individual families. Our service members should be able to focus on their missions without fearing that the government they serve could tear their families apart.

Congress has a responsibility to conduct oversight, demand transparency, and ensure that our nation keeps its promises to the people willing to put their lives on the line for our country. These lawmakers are also calling for the restoration of protections that previously allowed military families to pursue legal status without facing the constant threat of immigration enforcement.

Standing behind our troops means standing behind their families, too.
