Applaud Democrats For Launching Election Protection Efforts

Democrats are launching a nationwide election-protection initiative ahead of November’s midterms, with plans to train tens of thousands of volunteers to monitor polling places, provide voters with information, encourage early voting, and document potential voter intimidation.

The New Battlefield Project, organized through the Association of State Democratic Committees, will help state parties recruit and train volunteers across states and territories. Organizers hope to have trained volunteers covering roughly a quarter of the nation’s Election Day polling locations, with particular attention to areas with competitive races.

Volunteers are expected to help voters find the correct polling place, provide information about options such as provisional ballots, and document conduct they believe may interfere with voting. The initiative will also include a national campaign encouraging voters to cast ballots early by mail or in person where those options are available.

Another component, called the “democracy defense network,” is intended to help state Democratic parties share information about potential election-related threats, including disinformation, artificial intelligence, dark money, and attempts to disrupt election administration.
