Applaud Court Ruling Against Trump’s Deportation Order

We applaud U.S. District Judge Fernandez Rodriguez for his courageous ruling blocking the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) to carry out mass deportations. This landmark decision is the first to declare President Trump’s invocation of the AEA unlawful, reaffirming that the president cannot unilaterally label a gang an invading force and bypass the Constitution to detain or remove individuals without due process.

Judge Rodriguez’s opinion makes clear that no president is above the law. The court rejected Trump’s unfounded claims that the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua constituted an invading “hybrid criminal state,” finding no evidence of organized armed attacks or foreign control as required by the AEA. This ruling protects the rights of immigrants, upholds judicial oversight, and defends the fundamental principles of separation of powers.

We thank the ACLU for its powerful legal advocacy, and we stand with the vulnerable individuals and families affected by this unlawful policy. The Constitution matters—and this ruling is a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and human dignity.
