We proudly applaud the decision by U.S. District Court Judge Victoria Calvert to issue a temporary restraining order protecting more than 100 international students from deportation. This critical ruling defends the legal rights and futures of students who came to the United States in pursuit of education, many of whom have been unjustly targeted by the Trump administration. These students — from countries like India, China, Colombia, Mexico, and Japan — have contributed to our academic institutions and communities. Yet, they suddenly faced status revocation and deportation without clear cause, legal explanation, or due process. For some, minor infractions such as traffic citations or unfounded allegations were used as justification to strip away their legal standing in the country. Judge Calvert’s ruling sends a powerful message: due process matters, and the law must apply equally to all, including international students pursuing their education in good faith. We also commend the legal advocates, including the ACLU of Georgia and the team at Kuck Baxter, for standing up against this abuse of power. Thanks to their tireless efforts, students can return to their studies without fear — for now. This case is not only about immigration. It is about justice, fairness, and the integrity of our legal and educational systems. We stand with these students and with all those fighting to uphold the principles that make our country a beacon of opportunity and freedom. We call on the courts to make this protection permanent — and for Congress and university leaders to ensure that international students are treated with dignity and fairness, not suspicion and cruelty.
