Applaud Court Decision Halting Trump’s Illegal Mass Layoffs

We applaud U.S. District Judge Susan Illston for standing up for working families, government integrity, and the rule of law by blocking the Trump administration’s reckless mass layoff plan. Her temporary restraining order halts large-scale firings across more than two dozen federal agencies—layoffs that were ordered without congressional approval and threatened vital public services.

Judge Illston rightly ruled that sweeping changes to the federal workforce must involve Congress. The administration’s attempt to downsize government through the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, bypassed constitutional checks and jeopardized healthcare, food assistance, and public safety programs that millions of Americans rely on.
