Applaud Colorado for Feeding Every Student

Colorado voters just made history — and sent a powerful message about compassion, fairness, and community. 

By overwhelmingly passing Propositions LL and MM, Coloradans voted to tax the wealthy to fund free school meals for every public school student, fair wages for cafeteria workers, and fresh, local food for schools. The measures ensure that no child in Colorado will have to learn on an empty stomach — even as Donald Trump’s cruel SNAP cuts threaten food security across the country.

This victory is about more than food — it’s about dignity, equality, and opportunity. For too long, families have struggled to afford basic meals while billionaires hoard tax breaks. Colorado’s voters proved that when we put kids first and make the wealthy pay their fair share, everyone wins.

As the Colorado Democratic Party said, “No child should ever have to learn on an empty stomach.” And thanks to voters, that vision is becoming reality.
