Applaud Chasity Verret Martinez for a Louisiana Victory

Louisiana voters just delivered an emphatic message — and it deserves our applause.

Democrat Chasity Verret Martinez won her state House special election by a commanding 62–38 margin in a district Donald Trump carried by 13 points. Republicans poured money into the race and treated it as a top pickup opportunity, but Martinez still prevailed by double digits — even while being outspent 3-to-1.

Her victory shows what happens when candidates focus on what actually matters to people. Martinez centered her campaign on affordability, local priorities, and community needs — and voters responded. It’s a reminder that strong, grounded leadership can win even in places national Republicans assume belong to them.

This win is part of a growing pattern. Across the country, Democrats are outperforming expectations in special elections, while Republicans keep falling short. Since Trump returned to office, Democrats have flipped multiple GOP-held seats — and Republicans haven’t notched a single special election pickup.

Add your name to applaud Chasity Verret Martinez for her decisive win, for standing with working families in Louisiana, and for proving once again that when Democrats organize, listen, and show up, voters show up too.
