Applaud CA’s Stand Against Trump’s Redistricting Power Grab

California lawmakers have just introduced landmark legislation that puts power back where it belongs — in the hands of the voters. The “Election Rigging Response Act” would allow Californians to decide directly whether to redraw the state’s congressional map as a counter to Texas Republicans’ Trump-backed scheme to rig elections in their favor.

If passed, the measure will set a November 4 special election to approve a new map that adds five Democratic seats — a firewall against Trump’s attempt to silence communities of color and manipulate Congress. Unlike the GOP’s rushed, backroom redistricting in Texas, California’s approach is transparent and democratic: the people themselves get to choose.

This is more than just a map — it’s a line in the sand. California is showing that when Trump tries to undermine democracy, we fight back with more democracy.
