Applaud Arlington County for Challenging Trump's Arch

Arlington County is taking the Trump administration to court over its proposed 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery. The county's lawsuit seeks to block construction, raising concerns about public safety, historic preservation, and the impact on local residents.

The proposed arch would stand at Memorial Circle, near the historic sightline connecting the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. County attorneys argue that the massive structure would obstruct a view deliberately designed to symbolize national reunification after the Civil War. Even the National Park Service has acknowledged that the project would have adverse effects on several historic sites and Washington's skyline.

The lawsuit also raises concerns about plans to use the arch to store ammunition and accommodate drones and snipers. Arlington County argues that these activities, combined with increased traffic near a popular tourist destination, could create serious safety risks for residents, commuters, and visitors.

Arlington County is joining Vietnam War veterans who have already challenged the project in court. By filing its own lawsuit, the county is pushing to protect its community, preserve historic landmarks, and ensure that residents' concerns are heard before construction moves forward.
