A White House Enemies List Threatens Press Freedom

Donald Trump has crossed a red line. After recently calling the New York Times a “threat to national security,” his administration launched an official White House “Media Offenders” website to target journalists and outlets the president disagrees with publicly.

This is not accountability. It is government intimidation — and it must be condemned now.

A free press is essential to democracy. When the White House labels journalists as enemies, tracks their work, and encourages the public to report “offending” coverage, it chills speech and invites harassment. History shows that when political leaders single out reporters by name, threats and violence follow. Press freedom groups and international observers have documented rising intimidation of U.S. journalists alongside sustained political attacks on the media.

The Media Offenders site is a taxpayer-funded enemies list. It spotlights reporters, links to specific stories, and frames independent journalism as something to be punished. No president gets to decide which facts are acceptable. No administration gets to treat criticism as a security threat.
