Tell Kroger: Cut Prices Instead of Enriching Shareholders

Kroger just announced plans to spend billions of dollars on stock buybacks after its proposed merger with Albertsons was blocked. Instead of using this money to enrich shareholders, Kroger should focus on what matters most: lowering grocery prices for families struggling to make ends meet.

The cost of groceries remains a burden for millions of Americans. A recent report shows that more consumers are turning to dollar stores to afford basic necessities as food prices remain stubbornly high. At the same time, corporations like Kroger are prioritizing stock buybacks—a move that benefits wealthy investors but does nothing to address rising costs for consumers.

Stock buybacks take money that could be used to lower prices, increase worker pay, or improve store quality and funnel it to shareholders. This is a short-sighted strategy that puts profits over people, especially during a time when families are still recovering from the economic impacts of inflation and the pandemic.

We call on Kroger to stop spending billions on stock buybacks and instead use that money to lower grocery prices and support their workers. Customers and employees are the backbone of Kroger’s success, and they deserve to see that success invested in their well-being—not just in shareholder profits.

Sign this petition to demand that Kroger puts people over profits. Let’s show them that their customers expect better.
